Pro-Biafra Group Declines Participation in August 1 Protest, Cites Concerns for Southeast

The South East Renewed Hope Ambassadors (SERHA), a pro-Biafra organization, has distanced itself from the upcoming #EndBadGovernance# nationwide protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. The group asserts that the Southeast region has no significant benefit from the planned demonstration.

SERHA emphasizes that its primary concern is the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). The group argues that Kanu’s release should be the central issue of any protest rather than the broader agenda of the nationwide rally. They urge Southeast residents to avoid participating in protests that could exacerbate regional security issues and contribute to national unrest.

In a statement signed by President Arinzechukwu Awogu, Vice President Ugochukwu Ugwu, Secretary General Nwogba Morgan, Youths President Joseph Odumuko, and Mrs. Lovett Emere, SERHA recalled past crises, particularly the Nigerian Civil War, which had devastating effects on the Igbo community. The group highlighted the historical injustices faced by the Southeast and cautioned against joining movements that could lead to further turmoil.

The statement reflects SERHA’s commitment to prioritizing regional stability and addressing specific grievances related to Kanu’s detention over participating in broader protests.
