Kamala Harris Targets Donald Trump in Campaign Rally Amid Campaign Shake-Up

In her first rally since declaring her White House candidacy, US Vice-President Kamala Harris launched a direct attack on Donald Trump, framing the upcoming election as a choice between a former prosecutor and a convicted felon. Addressing around 3,000 supporters in Wisconsin, Harris drew parallels between Trump and fraudsters she once prosecuted as California's Attorney General.

The rally followed Harris's endorsement by the majority of Democratic delegates, clearing her path to become the party's nominee. This endorsement came after President Joe Biden's withdrawal from the race, which he announced following intense pressure from Democratic leaders and donors, exacerbated by a poor debate performance against Trump.

The Harris campaign has seen a surge in support, raising over $100 million in just 36 hours post-Biden's exit. A recent Reuters-Ipsos poll shows Harris leading Trump by two percentage points, 44% to 42%.

During her Milwaukee speech, Harris emphasized her track record of combating crime and fraud, asserting, "I know Donald Trump's type," and promising to hold her record up against his. Her comments sparked enthusiastic chants from the crowd, contrasting with the subdued response at recent Biden events. Attendees chanted "lock him up," reminiscent of Trump supporters' chants during the 2016 election.

Trump, in response, criticized Harris on his social media platform Truth Social, citing a poll that labeled her as the most unpopular vice-president in US history. He also criticized her record on border security, crime, and inflation, while accusing her of bailing out violent offenders and deceiving the public about Biden's cognitive health. Trump expressed openness to debating Harris, should she become the Democratic nominee.

Harris's campaign has garnered support from notable Democrats and celebrities, with endorsements from House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and Hollywood figures like George Clooney and Barbra Streisand.

As Biden prepares to address his withdrawal in an upcoming Oval Office speech, a Republican House member, Andy Ogles, has introduced articles of impeachment against Harris, accusing her of misconduct in handling border immigration. However, the resolution is expected to face significant challenges in advancing.
