Minister of State for Defence Bello Muhammed Matawalle has lauded President Bola Tinubu for signing the North-West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024 into law. The new legislation is expected to drive significant socio-economic development and infrastructure recovery in the North-West geopolitical zone.
According to a statement from Matawalle’s spokesperson, Ahmad Dan Wudil, the North-West Development Commission is tasked with overseeing the reconstruction of infrastructure such as roads, homes, and business premises damaged by various crises. The commission will also focus on poverty reduction, educational improvements, and addressing ecological and developmental challenges in the region.
Matawalle praised President Tinubu’s commitment to national unity and equitable development, highlighting that the President’s actions reflect a strong dedication to fairness and inclusive governance. “By signing this crucial bill into law, President Tinubu has shown a deep commitment to addressing the diverse developmental needs of our nation and ensuring that every region benefits from equitable progress,” Matawalle said.
The Minister also underscored the role of the commission in strengthening national security. He pointed out that the development and reconstruction efforts in the North-West will enhance infrastructure, promote social stability, and build economic resilience, which are essential for addressing the root causes of insecurity and creating a more sustainable environment for development.
The establishment of the North-West Development Commission is seen as a pivotal step towards achieving balanced development across Nigeria, with a particular focus on regions facing significant challenges.
