In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Drew Kohn, a 30-year-old man who defied the odds by waking from a 244-day coma, has tragically lost his life. On July 26, 2024, Kohn was struck by a pickup truck while walking on Collins Road in Jacksonville, Florida. The accident occurred around 5:30 a.m., and despite the driver’s efforts to get help, Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kohn's journey from near-death to recovery was nothing short of extraordinary. After a motorcycle accident in 2017 left him in a deep coma with severe brain injuries, doctors believed his situation was hopeless and considered organ harvesting. However, his mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, with unwavering faith, resisted these plans. "It was because of my faith that gave me the boldness to speak up and push back," she said. Her perseverance paid off when Drew miraculously woke up and began to recover, eventually learning to walk again.
Despite the intense rehabilitation and the miraculous nature of his recovery, Kohn’s life was cut short in this recent accident. Osborne-Kohn, though devastated, expressed gratitude for the seven additional years she had with her son. “I’m at peace,” she reflected. “I got seven years and like Hezekiah, I remember saying to myself, 'Thy will be done.'”
In her poignant tribute, she finds solace in the belief that her son is now free from suffering, imagining him joyfully reunited with a football and Bible in hand.
