The Nigerian Senate has committed to uncovering and addressing the sources of economic sabotage and the importation of toxic fuel into the country. This pledge came during a press conference held on Thursday in Abuja by the Senate’s ad-hoc committee tasked with investigating these issues.
Chairing the committee is Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Majority Leader, who was joined by other committee members at the briefing. Bamidele emphasized the gravity of the investigation, noting that it is critical for safeguarding the nation's economic health, fiscal stability, and public safety.
“We are fully dedicated to identifying the roots of economic sabotage within Nigeria’s petroleum industry,” Bamidele stated. “Our goal is to implement recommendations that align with global best practices, enhance investment opportunities, and ensure transparency and accountability in the sector.”
The committee’s work aims to address the systemic issues impacting the petroleum industry, particularly in the midstream and downstream sectors. Bamidele assured that the investigation would be conducted impartially and with integrity, reflecting a commitment to upholding national interests.
