Philip Shaibu Celebrates Reinstatement as Edo Deputy Governor, Hails Judiciary's Role

Philip Shaibu, the recently impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, has praised the Federal High Court's decision to reinstate him, describing it as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law.

On Wednesday morning, Justice J. K. Omotosho of the Abuja Federal High Court overturned Shaibu's impeachment by the Edo State House of Assembly.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Musa Ebomhiena, Shaibu emphasized the judiciary's vital role in ensuring justice. "The judiciary remains the last hope of the common man," Shaibu remarked, celebrating the court's decision as a reaffirmation of democratic principles and legal integrity.

The statement further elaborated:

"For us, it’s a victory for democracy and the rule of law. For mere mortals who think they can play God in the lives of others, this judgment serves as a lesson. He appoints kings and dethrones kings as it pleases Him. Those who have ears, let them hear."

Shaibu also responded to a statement from the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, calling it an affront to the judiciary. The Commissioner had insisted that nothing had changed and that Omobayo remained the Deputy Governor despite the court's ruling.

"The statement smacks of arrogance of power on the part of the Edo State Government, by insisting that nothing has changed, Omobayo remains the Deputy Governor," Shaibu stated.

"Nehikhare and his co-travellers should be reminded that power is transient, especially for them with less than four months to vacate office."
