Afrobeats artist Divine Ikubor, widely known as Rema, has shared how his early struggles and his mother’s hardships fueled his drive to succeed in music.
In a recent interview with Capital Xtra London, Rema opened up about his journey, revealing that his mother’s financial difficulties were a major source of inspiration. He recalled how his mother often had to walk long distances because she couldn’t afford transportation. This reality motivated him to push himself harder in his music career.
"I was frustrated seeing my mum trek every day just to get by. She didn’t have enough money for basic transportation, and that really pushed me to succeed quickly," Rema said.
Once he began earning from his music, Rema prioritized buying a car for his mother, even before getting one for himself. "The moment I made money, I got her a car right away. We went out for dinner, and then I gave her the car. I could have bought a car for myself first, but I wanted to make sure she had one."
Rema expressed deep gratitude towards his mother, attributing much of his success to her support and prayers. "She’s a wonderful mother, and her prayers have been a significant part of my success. She’s incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved."
Rema’s story highlights not only his rise in the music industry but also the personal values and motivations that drive his success.
