Spain's head coach, Montserrat Tomé, has lauded Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for her stellar performance during the Paris 2024 Olympic clash between Spain and Nigeria this past weekend. Nnadozie was instrumental in keeping the match competitive with a series of impressive saves that maintained a 0-0 scoreline until the dying moments of the game.
Despite Nigeria's offensive efforts, which included two missed opportunities by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, it was Alexia Putellas who ultimately secured the win for Spain with a late goal, resulting in a 1-0 victory.
In her post-match comments, Tomé praised Nnadozie’s exceptional goalkeeping skills and her ability to influence the game. "I’m very happy," Tomé stated. "They had already ruled out a goal by Salma, which was offside. We had chances, Aitana had them, Alexia had them too, others. We knew that Nnadozie was a good goalkeeper. In addition, her style of play conditioned us a lot because of the long shots she has."
Tomé's remarks underscore the challenging nature of the match for Spain and highlight Nnadozie’s role in keeping Nigeria in the game until the final whistle.
