Trump Calls for FBI Director Christopher Wray's Resignation Over Controversial Comments on Shooting Incident

Former President Donald Trump has demanded the resignation of FBI Director Christopher Wray following Wray’s comments about the shooting incident at a political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. During a congressional update on July 24, Wray cast doubt on whether Trump was struck by a bullet or shrapnel. Wray remarked, “There’s some question about whether or not it’s a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear,” and questioned if the bullet might have caused additional damage.

The shooting, carried out by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, resulted in the death of firefighter Corey Comperatore and injured two others, including Trump. Trump has recounted his experience extensively, stating he heard bullets whizzing past and sustained a graze on his ear. He described how his Secret Service detail initially believed he was critically injured, but he managed to avoid a fatal shot due to a last-minute turn.

The controversy intensified when initial reports speculated that Trump might have been hit by glass from a damaged teleprompter, a theory later disproved by photos showing undamaged screens. The incident has stirred political controversy, with some alleging an inside plot to discredit Trump ahead of the election.

During the hearing, Wray was also asked about his observations of President Biden’s mental state, to which he replied he had not noticed any cognitive issues. Trump criticized Wray’s response, suggesting it was indicative of Wray’s incompetence and demanding his immediate resignation. Trump also accused Wray of misleading Congress and failing to address what he claims are serious issues with President Biden’s cognitive health.
