VIDEO: Netflix Premieres Official Trailer for Bolanle Austen-Peters’ ‘House of Ga’a’

The giant streaming platform Netflix has released the official trailer for Bolanle Austen-Peters’s highly anticipated film, ‘House of Ga’a,’ ahead of its premiere on July 26, 2024.

This historical Nollywood thriller, set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire, delves into the life of the infamous Bashorun Ga’a, a figure who rose to power and wielded significant influence, often overshadowing the kings he served. The story explores themes of power, treachery, and legacy.

‘House of Ga’a’ follows the success of Austen-Peters’s previous work, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, a biopic about the renowned Nigerian activist and mother of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.

Bolanle Austen-Peters, the director and producer of the film, is a celebrated filmmaker and the founder of BAP Productions and Terra Kulture, an arts and culture center in Lagos. She has been recognized by CNN as the “woman pioneering theatre in Nigeria” and was named one of the most influential women in Africa by Forbes Africa. Her filmography includes acclaimed titles such as Man of God, Bling Lagosians, and Collision Course.

The project, first teased in May 2023, features an ensemble cast including Femi Branch, Mike Afolarin, Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham, Ibrahim Chatta, Dele Odule, Bimbo Manuel, Lateef Adedimeji, Femi Adebayo, Gabriel Afolayan, Jide Oyegbile, Seun Akindele, Yemi Blaq, Adeniyi Johnson, Muyiwa Ademola, Willam Benson, Gbenga Titiloye, and Kunle Coker.

Austen-Peters announced the start of filming on X (formerly Twitter) with the post, “Back on SET! Something special is brewing! Thank God.”
