Arizona Man Arrested for Threatening to Kill Donald Trump During Campaign Visit

An Arizona man, Ronald Syvrud, 66, was arrested on Thursday after making threats on social media to kill Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee. The arrest took place on the same day Trump visited Cochise County, Arizona, as part of his campaign, where he toured the US-Mexico border.

According to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Syvrud had multiple outstanding warrants from Wisconsin and was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon. The sheriff’s office confirmed on Friday that Syvrud was booked into the Cochise County Jail on a felony warrant from Graham County, Arizona. The charges against him include "failure to register as a sex offender" and "two counts of threatening" in relation to this case. Syvrud remains in custody as he awaits further legal proceedings.

When asked about the threat against him, Trump expressed little surprise, stating, "I am not that surprised [by the threat], and the reason is because I want to do things that are very bad for the bad guys." His comments came as part of a broader conversation about the increasing number of threats against political candidates ahead of the November 5 general election.

The incident is the latest in a string of threats targeting political figures. In early August, a Virginia man was charged with threatening Kamala Harris, Trump's Democratic opponent, and in December, a New Hampshire man was arrested for threatening to kill Republican presidential candidates.

The US Secret Service has faced significant scrutiny following a July assassination attempt on Trump, during which he was shot in the ear, leaving two others injured and one man dead. The agency's handling of the situation led to the resignation of its director.

Despite the recent threats and the previous attack, Trump voiced his continued support for the Secret Service, saying on Thursday, "I have great respect for the Secret Service and the job they do." He acknowledged that the agency had made mistakes but expressed confidence that they would learn from them.
