Biafra Agitator Simon Ekpa Vows to Defend Amaka Patience Sunnberger Amid Controversy

Simon Ekpa, Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government In-Exile, has pledged to defend Amaka Patience Sunnberger, the Canada-based Nigerian woman who recently gained notoriety for threatening Yoruba and Edo individuals.

In a statement posted on his official X account on Thursday, Ekpa voiced his support for Sunnberger, who sparked widespread outrage after a video she posted on TikTok threatened harm against individuals from the Yoruba and Edo ethnic groups. The video led to calls for her prosecution by the Nigerian House of Representatives, which has urged the Canadian government to take legal action against her for inciting violence and genocide.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), confirmed on Thursday that the case has been escalated. NiDCOM had previously petitioned Patrick Brown, Mayor of Brampton, Canada, regarding the threats made by Sunnberger.

Ekpa’s comments come amid rising tensions, with the Biafra agitator asserting that Sunnberger will receive protection and legal support from the Biafra government. He encouraged Sunnberger to reach out to the Biafra liaison in Canada or directly to him for assistance, urging her to remain calm.

Ekpa described Sunnberger as a victim of long-term bullying and claimed that her threats stemmed from deep-seated anger. He accused her detractors of failing to address the broader issues of violence affecting her community and criticized Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a prominent Igbo socio-cultural organization, for distancing itself from her.

“The Biafra government will stand by Amaka and offer legal support if necessary,” Ekpa declared. “Her actions were a response to long-term abuse and anger, and we will not tolerate any further victimization of our people.”

The ongoing controversy highlights the complex interplay of ethnic and political tensions within the Nigerian diaspora and raises questions about the responsibilities of both national and international authorities in addressing such inflammatory statements.
