Dancehall Star Vybz Kartel Released After 12 Years

Jamaican dancehall icon Adidja Palmer, better known as Vybz Kartel, has been released from prison after serving 12 years of a life sentence. Kartel's release follows a landmark decision by the Jamaican Court of Appeal on Wednesday, which overturned his previous convictions.

Kartel, along with Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Andre St John, and Kahira Jones, was originally sentenced in 2014 for the 2011 murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams. The convictions were nullified by the Privy Council in March 2024 due to issues of juror misconduct.

The recent ruling by the Court of Appeal dismissed the possibility of a retrial, bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle that lasted nearly 13 years. The decision marks a significant moment for Kartel and his associates, who have long contested their convictions.
