Artem Chigvintsev, known for his time on "Strictly Come Dancing," has been arrested in California on suspicion of domestic violence. The professional dancer, who won the BBC dance competition in 2010 with actress Kara Tointon, was taken into custody at Napa County Jail on Thursday morning, according to online jail records.
Details surrounding Chigvintsev’s arrest remain unclear, but he was released after posting a $25,000 (£19,000) bail.
Chigvintsev, 42, is well known for his appearances on the US version of the show, "Dancing with the Stars," where he was partnered with WWE star Nikki Bella in 2017. The two later became romantically involved, eventually getting engaged and tying the knot in 2022. They share a son, born in 2020, just hours before Bella’s twin sister, Brie Garcia, welcomed her second child.
Chigvintsev’s dancing career on "Strictly Come Dancing" began in 2010, where his partnership with Tointon not only won the series but also blossomed into a relationship that lasted several years. He continued his success on the show, reaching the semi-finals in 2011 with actress Holly Valance and later competing with TV presenter Fern Britton in 2012. His last stint on the show was in 2013, where he and Coronation Street actress Natalie Gumede finished as runners-up.
Nikki Bella and Chigvintsev have been open about their relationship, revealing that they discovered they were expecting a child just two and a half weeks after getting engaged in Paris. The couple’s love story was also featured on the E! reality series "Total Bellas," where Nikki and her sister Brie shared their lives with fans for five years.
Chigvintsev’s arrest comes just days after celebrating his second wedding anniversary with Bella. Further details about the incident leading to his arrest have not been disclosed, and his representatives have yet to comment.
