Governor Usman Ododo Appoints 1,192 Additional Aides, Sparking Public Debate

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo, has approved the appointment of 1,192 new aides, raising eyebrows among the public. The announcement was made on Monday, August 19, in a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Ayoade.

The newly appointed aides include Yakubu Abdulhakeem, who will serve as the Executive Secretary of the Kogi State Office for Disability. The appointments also feature 165 Senior Special Assistants, 36 Special Assistants, 574 Ward Special Assistants, and 290 Local Government Special Assistants.

Governor Ododo also appointed Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulsadiq as the Director of Protocol for the First Lady’s Office, along with other aides. The governor extended his congratulations to the appointees and encouraged them to dedicate themselves to serving the state and its people.

The appointments are set to take effect from September 1, 2024. However, the decision has sparked a conversation on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where many Nigerians are questioning the necessity of such a large number of aides for a state governor.

This development comes at a time when the public is increasingly scrutinizing government spending and efficiency, adding fuel to the ongoing debate about the size and scope of governmental appointments in the country.
