The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Nigeria has announced that the government is in discussions with the European Union (EU) to extradite Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, made this disclosure while responding to Ekpa's announcement of December 2, 2024, as the date for presenting the map and making an official declaration of the Biafra Republic.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Major General Buba stated that the Nigerian government would engage the Finnish government through the EU to address the matter. "The Federal Government will respond appropriately to the Finnish Government through the EU," he said. He added that the Nigerian military would continue its operations against the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Simon Ekpa recently unveiled a proposed map of the "40 United States of Biafra" and declared a formal presentation on December 2, 2024. He claims that this step is part of efforts to hasten the creation of an independent Biafran state.
"The Biafra Government is preparing to present the complete map of Biafra on December 2, 2024," Ekpa stated in his declaration.
The move by the Nigerian government to work with the EU signifies its intent to counter Ekpa's activities and maintain the country’s territorial integrity.
