President Tinubu Swears in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chambers, with Justice Kekere-Ekun taking her oaths at approximately 11:38 a.m. She then assumed her official seat to the left of the President at 11:45 a.m.

Justice Kekere-Ekun steps into the role following the retirement of her predecessor, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola. Her nomination for the position was submitted to President Tinubu by the National Judicial Council (NJC) on August 15.

Justice Kekere-Ekun's appointment marks a significant milestone, as she becomes the second female to hold the position of CJN, following in the footsteps of Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, who served from July 2012 to November 2014. She will serve in an acting capacity until her confirmation by the Senate.

The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Justices of the Supreme Court, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives leadership represented by Prof. Julius Ihonbvere, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the outgoing CJN, Justice Ariwoola.
