Snoop Dogg made waves at the Paris Olympic Games on Saturday, bringing his unique flair to the dressage competition despite his well-known fear of horses. The 52-year-old rapper, also known as Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., attended the event with his close friend Martha Stewart, adding a touch of celebrity pizzazz to the equestrian sports.
Snoop Dogg, who is working as an NBC correspondent for the Olympics—just as he did during the Tokyo Games in 2021—embarked on a memorable outing to the dressage event. His previous appearance at the Tokyo Olympics included a humorous take on a horse’s dance moves, which he jokingly praised as "off the chain" and suggested should be featured in one of his music videos.
In Paris, Snoop expressed his ongoing fascination with horses despite his admitted apprehension. “I am interested in the horses that dance,” he said, playfully adding, “I want to give them some carrots and apples … make sure they’re fed before they do their thang.”
Martha Stewart, who has extensive experience with horses, joined Snoop in this unique Olympic experience. She explained their plan, noting, “Snoop called me and said he knows I know horses, and he’s a little fearful of horses.” Stewart reassured Snoop that she would ensure he stayed away from feeding the horses too much sugar, adding, “We’re gonna have so much fun.”
Despite his nerves, Snoop managed to feed some horses during the event, delighting in the lively atmosphere. Afterward, he attended the soccer match at Parc des Princes, where the USA women's team triumphed over Japan with a 1-0 victory in the quarter-finals.
Snoop’s presence at the Games has been widely celebrated. NBC’s Molly Solomon commented on his surprising popularity, praising Snoop for his mix of “swagger and positivity.”
In the dressage competition itself, Snoop and Stewart witnessed a historic moment as Isabell Werth of Germany became the most decorated German Olympian. Werth, riding Wendy, a black mare she had trained for just six months, achieved a score of 79.89%. Her performance helped Germany secure victory over Denmark and Britain, bringing her career tally to eight gold and five silver medals.
Werth’s performance demonstrated that dressage, often seen as a niche sport, can be thrilling and dramatic. “No one can say that dressage is boring,” she said. “It was really exciting to the very last point.”
Snoop Dogg’s playful and engaging presence at the Olympics adds a vibrant layer to the global sporting event, showing that even amidst intense competition, there’s always room for a bit of fun and celebrity charm.
