VIDEO: Omoyele Sowore Calls for Nationwide Shutdown Following President Tinubu's Address

In a bold response to President Bola Tinubu’s recent address amidst the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, journalist and #RevolutionNow Movement convener Omoyele Sowore has called for a complete shutdown across Nigeria.

On Sunday, August 4, Sowore appeared on News Central TV to criticize President Tinubu’s speech, asserting that it failed to address the protesters' demands. He argued that the President’s remarks did not reflect any genuine engagement with the issues raised by the demonstrators.

Sowore stated, “The government has nothing to offer you. Sometimes we ask for too much when we know that they have nothing or little to give. The speech I barely listened to had nothing substantial in it. There is no desire on their part to connect with the issues. We have 15 demands, but none of them was addressed. Tinubu merely reaffirmed his position that no matter what you do, he is not going to do anything about your condition.”

He further criticized the President’s approach to the crisis, remarking, “The social and economic conditions have brought hardships to the people. The President’s response only helps to mobilize for the next round of action. Nigerians have returned to the barricades in Lagos today, and tomorrow, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of #RevolutionNow, we are calling for a massive mobilization across Nigeria and beyond.”

Sowore's call to action includes urging citizens to stock up on food, encouraging workers to refrain from going to work, and advising transporters to stay off the highways. His aim is to create a significant impact that demonstrates the people’s power and dissatisfaction with the current administration.

Sowore also mocked the President’s suggestion of growing vegetables at the back of Aso Rock as a solution to the country’s economic woes, deeming it a reflection of the government’s lack of seriousness.

The #RevolutionNow Movement’s list of 15 critical demands remains a focal point of the protests, with organizers maintaining that these demands are non-negotiable. As the protests continue, Sowore and his fellow organizers remain committed to intensifying their actions to drive change.
