Zimbabwean Woman Awaiting Kidney Transplant Passes Away Amidst Controversy

In a deeply saddening turn of events, Ruth Hwara, who had been awaiting a life-saving kidney transplant, has passed away. The tragic news was confirmed by influencer and entrepreneur Joey Nyikadzino on her Facebook page on August 15.

Nyikadzino shared the heartbreaking update, revealing that she learned of Ruth’s death through a message in the Hwara family WhatsApp group. She expressed her condolences and issued a stern warning to those responsible for delaying Ruth’s treatment.

“We just saw a message in the Hwara group that Ruth is no more. May her soul rest in peace. Zimbabwe wanted you to live and fulfill your dreams, but it was not to be. Whoever delayed Ruth’s treatment, may God deal with you,” Nyikadzino wrote in her post.

Ruth Hwara’s passing comes amidst a troubling scandal involving Tendai Chibwe, an EcoCash agent from Dzivarasekwa 4. Chibwe has been accused of stealing US$13,000 donated by well-wishers for Ruth’s kidney transplant. The 46-year-old was granted bail of US$100 after appearing before Harare Magistrate Simon Kandiyero on fraud charges. He is scheduled to return to court on September 26.

The issue began when Ruth’s uncle, Nigel Makono, sought to raise funds for her urgent medical procedure via social media. Donations were collected through Makono’s EcoCash account, which reached its transaction limit, prompting him to seek Chibwe’s assistance.

Chibwe is alleged to have deceived Makono by claiming the funds were secure, but only providing a small portion of the total amount. Despite receiving additional transfers totaling US$13,000, Makono reportedly only received $1,100 from Chibwe, who subsequently became evasive when questioned about the remaining funds.

Ruth’s untimely death has left many grieving and questioning the circumstances surrounding the delay in her treatment.
