A rematch between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois could be on the horizon, with reports suggesting it might take place in February.
Dubois made headlines in their first fight at Wembley Stadium, where he delivered a shocking fifth-round knockout against Joshua. The bout saw Dubois knock Joshua down early in the first round and drop him three times before securing the knockout, successfully retaining his IBF title.
As the heavyweight division prepares for Oleksandr Usyk's upcoming fight with Tyson Fury in December, it was initially expected that Dubois would wait for the winner. However, recent updates indicate that a rematch with Joshua is now possible. Frank Warren, Dubois’ promoter, has mentioned that an early fight is planned for next year, with February 22 being considered as a potential date in Riyadh.
“I’m not against that at all. That’s not just an open door for me; I’ll take the door off the hinges and we’ll do it,” Warren told TNT Sports. He confirmed that the fight could happen if both sides agree, stating, “His next fight will be in February, and we will work out who that’s going to be in the next week or two.”
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, also supports the idea of a rematch, noting that Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh is keen to see the two fighters face off again. “Rematch clauses come in many different forms,” Hearn explained to talkSPORT. “We have a fight with Riyadh Season, and one of our options is to fight Daniel Dubois again. Our contract is with them. His Excellency [Turki Alalshikh] will deal with Frank and Daniel to make that fight happen.”
Hearn added that they have already agreed on terms for the rematch and indicated that both Joshua and Dubois are eager to make it happen. However, he acknowledged the need for Joshua to rest and recover after the previous fight, stating, “It was a heavy night at the office, and we aren’t looking to fight in 10-12 weeks.”
