Court Grants Bail to 10 #EndBadGovernance Protesters in Abuja

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to 10 protesters arrested in Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe for their participation in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. Each of the defendants must provide a surety with landed property in Abuja and pay N10 million as bail.

The protesters, including Comrades Eleojo Opaluwa, Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye (also known as Michael Lenin), Angel Innocent, Mosiu Sodiq, and Adeyemi Abayomi, along with five others arrested in Kano—Suleiman Yakubu, Buhari Lawal, Bashir Bello (Murtala), Nuradeen Khamis, and Abdulsalam Zubairu—faced a bail hearing in Abuja on Wednesday.

These individuals have been held at Kuje Correctional Centre since their arraignment on September 2, after the court denied an oral bail application by their legal team.

Justice Emeka Nwite, ruling on the bail applications, stated that the charges against the defendants are bailable, and they are entitled to bail. The court required the sureties to swear an affidavit of means, reside within the court's jurisdiction, and submit title documents for their properties. Additionally, the defendants must submit three passport photographs and their passports, while being restricted from participating in public rallies.

During the hearing, Abubakar Marshal, counsel for the first to fourth defendants, informed the court that 49 other protesters remain detained at Kuje Correctional Centre under the court's orders. The case has been adjourned until September 27 for the start of the trial.
