Edo Police Commissioner Denies Links to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, has dismissed allegations that his recent deployment to the state was influenced by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. The claims were described as "baseless" and "mischievous" in a statement released by the state's police spokesperson, Moses Yamu, on Monday in Benin.

Commissioner Iwo clarified that his transfer was a routine administrative decision within the Nigerian Police Force. "It's laughable to suggest that the FCT Minister had any hand in my deployment. I have no personal or professional connection with him," Iwo said.

He acknowledged that while it would be an honor to be associated with Wike, he emphasized that their paths had never crossed.

Iwo also stressed that the police have no role in determining election outcomes, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has implemented innovations to ensure a transparent process. "The police do not have any powers or privileges to influence the result of any election," he added.

He urged the public to ignore the false claims and reassured residents of Edo State that the police would remain neutral and professional during the upcoming gubernatorial election.
