Five Dead After Church Feast in Ibadan, Many Hospitalized

At least five people have reportedly died after consuming food during a church feast in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State. The incident occurred last Sunday during a celebration at one of the local churches, where many worshippers ate from the food prepared for the occasion.

According to reports, several other church members who participated in the feast were admitted to the Infectious Disease Centre in the Olodo area of Ibadan after falling ill. Sources revealed that about 50 people were treated at the center, and they have since been discharged.

The cause of death for the five victims is still under investigation, and it is unclear if the food served during the feast was responsible. The feast was reportedly part of the church's traditional events, following its doctrine.

The Oyo State Ministry of Health, alongside other relevant authorities, has been informed of the tragic incident and has commenced an investigation to determine the cause.

The Public Relations Officer of the Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, confirmed that an investigation is underway. He stated, “Investigation is ongoing. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.”

This incident has raised concerns over food safety, and many are awaiting the outcome of the investigation to determine what led to the unfortunate deaths
