Former Cagliari Midfielder Andrea Capone Found Dead at 43

Andrea Capone, a former midfielder for Cagliari, has tragically passed away at the age of 43. His lifeless body was discovered at the luxurious Palazzo Tirso Hotel in Italy on Sunday, September 29.

Local reports indicate that Capone had been out socializing with friends when he fell and sustained a severe head injury. Medical personnel were unable to revive him at the scene. There is also speculation that he may have experienced a sudden cardiac event that led to the fall.

Capone was born in Cagliari and began his football career with the local club, joining the first team at just 19 years old. He made his debut during the 2000-01 Serie B season against Crotone. He later played in Serie A for Cagliari and had stints with other clubs, including Sora, Treviso, Vicenza, Grosseto, and Salernitana.

Throughout his time at Cagliari, Capone participated in 123 matches, scoring 12 goals and providing 7 assists. In a heartfelt tribute, Cagliari Calcio expressed their sorrow, stating, "The bond with his homeland will remain unbreakable for a man who was always characterized by his professionalism, dedication, and passion. Qualities that will stay in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, both on and off the field. Cagliari Calcio embraces his family in this moment of profound grief. Rest in peace, Andrea."

After leaving Cagliari, Capone had a brief trial with Celtic, playing in two pre-season matches before eventually signing with Vicenza in Serie B. He later had short spells with Grosseto and Salernitana before retiring from professional football in 2010.
