Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah Reportedly Killed in Israeli Airstrike

Israel's military has announced the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in an airstrike targeting the group’s central headquarters in Beirut. According to a statement released on Saturday, September 28, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that its fighter jets, supported by precise intelligence, struck Hezbollah’s underground command center located beneath a residential building in the Daha district of Beirut.

The IDF’s statement emphasized its commitment to countering terrorism, stating: "The IDF will continue to target anyone involved in terrorism against the citizens of the State of Israel."

Hezbollah, both a Shiite political party and a militant group, is known for its strong anti-Israel stance and is heavily supported by Iran, Israel’s primary adversary. The group has provided backing to Hamas since the outbreak of conflict between Israel and Palestine on October 7.

Nasrallah, who has maintained a low public profile for years due to fears of assassination, has close ties to Iran and is credited with militarizing Hezbollah. Under his leadership, Hezbollah has trained militants from Hamas, as well as forces in Yemen and Iraq.

Born in Beirut in 1960, Nasrallah joined the Amal movement, a Shia militia, during the Lebanese Civil War. He rose to lead Hezbollah in 1992 following the death of its former leader in an Israeli helicopter strike.

As of the time of this report, Hezbollah has not yet issued any comment on Israel's claims regarding Nasrallah's assassination.
