Music legend Janet Jackson has sparked discussion after suggesting that U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris may not be fully Black, a claim that mirrors a narrative previously raised by former President Donald Trump.
In a recent interview, Jackson weighed in on the upcoming election and Harris’ potential to become the first Black woman president. During the conversation, Jackson stated she had heard claims that Harris is not Black but rather Indian, echoing comments Trump made at the National Association of Black Journalists Annual Convention in July.
When the interviewer clarified that Harris is both Black and Indian, Jackson persisted, saying, "Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told they discovered her father was white."
Kamala Harris, whose father is of Jamaican-American descent and mother of Indian descent, identifies as Black. Harris has openly discussed her background and her identity throughout her political career.
Jackson also shared doubts about the 2024 election, expressing concerns over potential unrest regardless of the outcome, and suggested that a peaceful transition of power might not occur.
Jackson’s remarks have generated conversations about identity and race in politics, adding to ongoing debates surrounding Vice President Harris as she remains a key figure in the upcoming presidential race.
