Male Inmate Caught Sneaking into Women's Section of Arizona Jail to Attempt Assault

 

A male inmate at a Maricopa County jail in Arizona was captured on surveillance cameras sneaking into the women's section of the facility, reportedly with the intent to sexually assault a female inmate. The incident, which occurred in April, involved Justin Avery, who was already facing charges for the alleged sexual assault of five women near Arizona State University's Tempe campus.

Court documents obtained by ABC15 reveal that Avery was seen at around 4 AM crawling past a security guard in the intake area, moving "like a spider" to avoid detection. Avery later admitted he was drawn to a female inmate and intended to assault her.

Once inside the women's section, Avery reportedly lowered his pants behind a sleeping inmate. However, his actions were interrupted when another female inmate saw him and screamed for help, prompting a security officer to step in.

Avery now faces an additional charge of sexual assault and is expected to appear in court next week. This incident has sparked concerns about the jail’s security protocols and inmate oversight.
