American actor and comedian Marlon Wayans, 52, recently opened up about his journey as a father to his transgender son, Kai. In a heartfelt interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the Scary Movie star shared how he embraced Kai's transition, stating, "It's the same child they were before—just with a beard now. Same baby."
Wayans, who also has a son, Shawn, 22, and a 21-month-old daughter, Axl, talked about the emotional process of coming to terms with Kai's transition. He admitted that he went through the "five stages of grief" before reaching a place of acceptance, which he now views as "beautiful and magical."
When asked about what he learned during this experience, Wayans said it made him realize his inner strength and the unwavering support of his family. "I learned that I’m a lot stronger than I thought," he said. "My family—my brothers, my sisters—prepared me to be a rock."
Wayans also reflected on the recent loss of his parents. His mother, Elvira Alethia, passed away at 81 in July 2020, and his father, Howell Stouten, died at 86 in April 2023. He described how accepting these losses, alongside Kai's transition, helped him find peace. "Once you accept, you release, give yourself to God, and everything becomes better," he shared.
Wayans continues to advocate for love and acceptance, drawing strength from his experiences as a parent and family man.
