CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale has officially taken on the role of the 40th Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command. He succeeds CP Adegoke Fayoade, who has been promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police and reassigned to AIG Zone 2 Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos.
According to a statement from SP Benjamin Hundeyin, CP Olawale joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Ibadan. His training includes courses at the Police Staff College in Jos and the National Institute of Police Studies in Abuja.
CP Olawale has held numerous significant positions throughout his career, including:
- Unit Commander and 2i/c Squadron Commander at the 20 PMF Ikeja and 23 PMF Lagos.
- Training and Teaching Roles at Detective College Enugu, Nigeria Police Academy Kano, and Police Staff College Jos.
- Divisional Police Officer in various locations including Sabongida Ora, Iguenben, Igbeba, and Ibara in Ogun State, as well as in Lagos' most challenging areas such as Gowon Estate, Ibeju Lekki Elemoro, and Mushin.
- Area Commander in Auchi, Edo State, and 'L' Ilesha, Lagos, and more recently CP at the Port Authority Police-Western Port Lagos.
His extensive experience includes managing high-profile situations in Lagos, such as the OPC Idi Araba and Abule Egba crises, demonstrating his expertise in handling complex security issues.
As CP Olawale begins his tenure, he aims to strengthen law and order, build community trust, and improve safety in Lagos. The public is encouraged to support and cooperate with him during his service.
Hundeyin also noted that CP Olawale is married with three children and a grandchild.
