Nigerians React as Reports Emerge on Bobrisky's Alleged VIP Treatment During Prison Sentence

Nigerians have been reacting to reports surrounding the six-month jail sentence of popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

According to sources revealed that Bobrisky, with prison number S682/2024, was initially taken to Ikoyi Prison but later transferred to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri, after his presence began to draw significant attention at Ikoyi.

One source shared, "He was first moved to Ikoyi prison where he spent a few days before the controller, Ben-Rabbi Freedman, moved him to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kirikiri."

Another source confirmed that Bobrisky was moved from Ikoyi to Kirikiri’s Medium Security Custodial Centre, and later transferred again to the Maximum Security Custodial Centre. The source added that Bobrisky had been visited by relatives, with a record of all his activities documented.

"Many people, including three family members, visited him in prison. They followed the proper procedures, which allowed them access. I saw him too, and he seemed calm and reflective," the source added.

It was also reported that some prisons have "special cells" for high-profile inmates or those considered at risk if placed with the general population. These cells, often reserved for well-behaved inmates, can be furnished to suit the inmate's preferences. The cost of using such a cell is determined by the prison officials in charge, and large sums of money are sometimes collected for these arrangements.

"These special cells are usually reserved for inmates who are seen as Very Important Persons (VIPs)," the source noted, suggesting that Bobrisky may have stayed in one during his time at Kirikiri.

However, Abubakar Umar, spokesperson for the Nigerian Correctional Service, denied allegations of preferential treatment, stating, "We are not aware of such practices. All inmates are treated equally, and there is no special treatment for anyone."

An investigation was reportedly launched after an audio clip surfaced online, in which Bobrisky allegedly mentioned that his godfather had secured him special accommodations during his jail term.
