Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has declared that the ongoing persecution of the Igbo people in Nigeria will end with him. Kanu emphasized that this is why he is fighting for the freedom of his people.
Speaking during the resumed hearing of his trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, Kanu stated, "This persecution of the Igbo people in Nigeria, this almost globally orchestrated persecution of the Igbo, stops with me. It can never continue. I am campaigning for the freedom of my people, as simple as that."
This declaration came shortly before Justice Binta Nyako, the presiding judge, announced her decision to step down from the case. The judge's decision followed Kanu's insistence that he no longer had faith in the court and requested that the judge recuse herself from his trial.
Justice Nyako confirmed her intention to recuse herself from the trial after Kanu expressed his loss of confidence in the judiciary handling his case.
