North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, has reportedly expanded the list of crimes that can result in the death penalty. According to Fox News, citing Yonhap News Agency, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un's government increased the number of death-penalty offenses from 11 to 16 through amendments to the country's criminal law.
The newly added offenses include actions such as anti-state propaganda, illegal weapons manufacturing, and the illicit use of arms. Additionally, certain “reactionary” behaviors are now punishable by death, including wearing foreign fashion items like white wedding dresses, blue jeans, or sunglasses. The regime also reportedly banned the use of South Korean slang in written communications.
Aside from the death penalty, individuals involved in behavior deemed anti-social by the regime may face harsh penalties such as imprisonment in labor camps or forced re-education programs.
