Trump Ramps Up Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric and Personal Attacks on Kamala Harris in Wisconsin Speech

Donald Trump, while speaking in Wisconsin on Saturday, intensified his stance against immigrants and escalated his personal attacks on Kamala Harris. During his speech in Prairie du Chien, Trump focused almost entirely on undocumented immigrants, referring to them as “stone-cold killers” and “vile animals,” and falsely accusing them of widespread violent crime in the U.S.

The speech took place in a town where a Venezuelan immigrant, living in the U.S. illegally, was arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman and her daughter. Trump used this incident as a springboard for broader attacks, flanked by posters of immigrants involved in crimes and banners calling for the deportation of undocumented individuals.

In his remarks, Trump also harshly criticized Harris, calling her "mentally impaired" and blaming her for immigration issues. He accused both Harris and President Biden of enabling crime by allowing undocumented immigrants to enter the country, using inflammatory language to describe them as threats to American citizens. He stated that some immigrants were in the U.S. to “rape, pillage, thieve, plunder and kill."

At one point, Trump acknowledged the dark tone of his speech, describing it as a reflection of his frustration over immigration policies under the current administration. He accused Harris of "erasing the border" and emphasized that she should never be allowed to become president.

The speech also featured a video highlighting Harris' stance on immigration, which Trump used to criticize her further, calling her "incompetent" and labeling her a "Marxist." His running mate, JD Vance, continued the attacks in a separate speech in Pennsylvania, accusing Harris of failing the country and linking immigration to rising inflation and housing costs.

Although some families affected by violent crime and drug issues support Trump's hardline immigration stance, critics argue that his rhetoric unfairly targets immigrants and reinforces harmful stereotypes. Research shows no evidence that immigrants commit crimes at higher rates than native-born Americans, but Trump's message resonates with parts of his base as he seeks to sway voters ahead of the upcoming election.

Harris, during a recent visit to the U.S.-Mexico border, outlined her plans for immigration reform and criticized Trump's divisive rhetoric. She called for more stringent asylum policies and emphasized the importance of stopping fentanyl from crossing the border.
