Ukraine has imposed restrictions on the use of Telegram for its government, military, and security personnel, citing national security risks associated with the app. This decision was announced by the National Security and Defence Council, which emphasized that the move is crucial for safeguarding the nation.
In a statement on Facebook, the council indicated that during a recent meeting, evidence was presented showing that Russian intelligence services can access Telegram users' private messages, including those that have been deleted, as well as personal data.
Budanov, the head of Ukraine's military intelligence, highlighted that while he supports freedom of speech, the situation surrounding Telegram transcends this issue and is fundamentally about national security.
Consequently, Ukraine's cybersecurity center has decided to prohibit the use of Telegram on official devices belonging to government officials, military members, and employees in the security and defense sectors, along with those working in critical infrastructure. However, exceptions will be made for individuals whose official duties require the use of the app.
