US Secretary of State Antony Blinken Calls for Changes in Israeli Security Forces After West Bank Killing

During a diplomatic visit to London, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy and addressed the killing of an American citizen in the West Bank. At a press conference, Blinken condemned the death of 26-year-old Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was shot by Israeli forces during a protest in Beita near Nablus. She was a volunteer with the International Solidarity Movement, which opposes Israeli settlements.

Blinken described the killing as "unprovoked and unjustified," making some of his strongest remarks to date against Israeli military actions. He emphasized that "no one should be shot and killed for attending a protest" and urged Israeli security forces to make significant changes to their operational procedures, including their rules of engagement.

The incident has raised concerns about Israel's handling of protests in the West Bank, with Blinken's comments signaling a call for reform in how Israeli forces respond to demonstrations in occupied territories.
