South Africa’s Vice President Paul Mashatile collapsed during a public event in Limpopo on Saturday afternoon. The incident happened while Mashatile was speaking in Tzaneen at a ceremony marking the inauguration of a local traditional leader.
The Limpopo provincial government has reported that Mashatile, who was affected by the intense heat during his speech, is now in stable condition. Phophi Ramathuba, the province’s premier and a medical doctor, confirmed that Mashatile’s condition is not serious and that he is being cared for by his medical team.
Ramathuba, who was present when Mashatile collapsed, assured the public, “The deputy president is fine, he is with his medical team. I was with them, he’s okay and there’s no need to worry.”
Mashatile was delivering his address when the extreme temperatures caused him to fall. He was promptly attended to and is currently recovering.
