France Football, the organization behind the prestigious Ballon d'Or award, has reportedly informed Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior that he will be this year's winner, according to Marca.
The official announcement of the winner will take place during a ceremony on October 28. Vinicius Jr's anticipated victory comes as a result of his standout performances for both Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team over the past year. The 24-year-old played a crucial role in helping Los Blancos secure their 15th Champions League title, scoring six goals and providing five assists, including a key goal in the final.
The last Brazilian to receive the Ballon d'Or was Kaká in 2007. Since then, the award has primarily been dominated by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, with only Luka Modric in 2018 and Karim Benzema in 2022 breaking their streak.
In addition to Vinicius Jr, four of his Real Madrid teammates—Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rudiger, Kylian Mbappe, and Jude Bellingham—are also nominated for the award.
