The Governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has accused the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, of being involved in banditry activities during his tenure as the state's governor. In an interview with Television Continental (TVC) on September 18, Governor Lawal claimed that Matawalle had housed bandits in the Zamfara State government house while serving as governor.
Lawal urged Matawalle to resign from his ministerial position and face the allegations against him. He said, "If I were him, I would resign and address these accusations. From the information available, my predecessor was deeply involved in banditry activities. There was even an incident where a ransom was paid from the government house when a permanent secretary’s children were abducted."
Governor Lawal criticized the appointment of Matawalle as Minister of State for Defence by President Bola Tinubu, calling it unfair to the people of Zamfara. He advised Matawalle to step aside and clear his name before continuing in any public office. "It would be more honorable for him to resign, deal with these allegations, and then return once his name is cleared," Lawal added.
