Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, have engaged in a verbal exchange concerning the conduct of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki. Akpabio expressed disappointment in Obaseki, stating that the governor, who was once supported by Oshiomhole, has now turned against both his benefactor and democratic principles.
Akpabio remarked, "The man you brought in as Governor has turned against you and against democracy," referring to Obaseki's actions in recent political matters.
In response, Oshiomhole clarified his role in Obaseki's rise to power, distancing himself from the perception that he "brought" Obaseki into office. Oshiomhole noted, "Just for the record, I didn’t bring him in; he was elected, but I supported him, just as you supported Governor Udom."
The exchange highlights the ongoing tensions between the two politicians regarding Obaseki’s governance and the political dynamics that have since unfolded in Edo State. Both Akpabio and Oshiomhole had previously played key roles in supporting different governors, but the conversation suggests a shift in relationships, especially regarding Obaseki's current stance.
