Aliko Dangote Maintains Position as Africa's Richest Man

Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote has been confirmed as the richest person in Africa, according to Bloomberg's latest Top 500 Billionaires Index released on Thursday. With a net worth of $28 billion, Dangote ranks 65th globally, marking the highest position he has ever achieved on the list.

This significant increase in his wealth is attributed to the successful commencement of operations at his newly constructed petrochemical refinery, valued at over $20 billion. Dangote's rise in the rankings is noteworthy, as he was previously positioned 83rd in 2022.

No other African comes close to Dangote’s wealth, with South African Johann Rupert ranking 174th globally, boasting a fortune of $13.6 billion. Nicky Oppenheimer, also from South Africa, is ranked 224th with $11.6 billion. Other notable African billionaires include South Africa’s Natie Karsh at 297th ($9.25 billion), Egypt’s Nassef Sawiris at 302nd ($9.16 billion), and Naguib Sawiris, also of Egypt, at 407th ($7.37 billion).

Globally, Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos hold the top two spots, with fortunes of $242 billion and $210 billion, respectively. Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Ellison follow closely behind, with $204 billion and $185 billion in their wealth.
