Bill for Creation of Ogoja State Advances in House of Representatives

A bill proposing the establishment of Ogoja State has successfully passed its second reading in the House of Representatives on Thursday. The legislation, sponsored by Godwin Offiono and three other lawmakers, was discussed during the plenary session.

The bill aims to amend the 1999 Constitution to create an additional state in the South-South region of Nigeria. In his motion, Mr. Offiono emphasized that the primary motivation behind the bill is to promote equity within the region.

If enacted, the bill would increase the number of states in the South-South to seven. The second reading was met with unanimous support, as no opposition was raised from other members. The bill has now been forwarded to the House Committee on Constitution Review for further consideration.
