A woman has come forward with allegations that Doug Emhoff slapped her during an argument in 2012, while they were dating prior to his marriage to Kamala Harris. The claims, which originated in an anonymous interview with the Daily Mail, have prompted a denial from a spokesperson for the second gentleman.
The unnamed woman, described by the tabloid as a successful New York lawyer, alleges that the incident occurred at the Cannes Film Festival in France, claiming that Emhoff struck her with enough force to spin her around. Following Emhoff’s denial of the allegations, she reiterated her claims but requested to remain anonymous.
In response to the accusations, a spokesperson for Emhoff stated that “any suggestion that he would or has ever hit a woman is false,” emphasizing that the allegations are “untrue.” The Daily Mail cited three unnamed friends of the woman who reportedly support her account. The woman has criticized Emhoff for what she perceives as hypocrisy, accusing him of presenting himself as a “perfect” spouse and feminist, particularly as he supports Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee.
“He’s being held out to be the antithesis of who he actually is. And that is utterly shocking,” she said in her interview.
Meanwhile, Emhoff’s alleged past has become a focal point for Trump’s election campaign, which is seeking to counteract the negative publicity surrounding the Republican nominee. This comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Trump due to a civil verdict finding him liable for sexually abusing writer E. Jean Carroll and multiple allegations of sexual assault from various women, all of which he has denied.
