Former President Barack Obama recently opened up about facing “somewhat inappropriate” attention from admirers during his time in office. Speaking on The Pivot Podcast with former NFL players Channing Crowder, Ryan Clark, and Fred Taylor, Obama shared insights into how he handled the unexpected attention despite the challenges it occasionally posed.
Crowder, a former linebacker for the Miami Dolphins, kickstarted the conversation by discussing how fame impacted him and kept him “on the straight and narrow.” Crowder then jokingly asked Obama if, as “President Good Looking Dude,” he had similar experiences. Obama replied with humor, acknowledging that his wife, Michelle, might be watching.
Obama explained that his perspective was different, as his fame came later in life. "By the time people really knew who I was, I was 43 years old, married with two kids,” he said. “I was a regular guy in that sense.”
The former president then recounted moments when admirers acted “in somewhat inappropriate ways,” noting that some images online show fans grabbing him inappropriately. “The Secret Service likely didn’t intervene because these were often older women,” he added with a laugh.
Obama credited Michelle as his “extraordinary partner” who helps him stay focused, especially considering the responsibility he feels as a father. “The idea of disappointing your kids is something that, I ain’t going there,” he said, reflecting on how family values ground him.
Obama and Michelle married in 1992, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha, were young when he became the first Black president of the United States in 2008.
