Bill Gates, one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, has reportedly made a $50 million donation to a nonprofit organization supporting Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. According to The New York Times, the contribution was meant to stay confidential, as Gates has not publicly endorsed Harris, who is challenging Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming November 5 election.
The donation was directed to Future Forward USA Action, the nonprofit arm of the political group Future Forward. As a "dark money" organization, it is not required to disclose its donors, ensuring that Gates’ contribution will not appear on any public filings.
In a statement responding to the report, Gates emphasized his commitment to bipartisan support but acknowledged the unique nature of this election. “This election is different," he said. "I support candidates who are clearly dedicated to improving healthcare, reducing poverty, and addressing climate change both in the U.S. and globally.”
While Gates has kept his political contributions low-profile, his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, has publicly endorsed Harris, joining a group of at least 81 other billionaires backing the Democratic candidate in her campaign against Trump.
This donation highlights Gates’ alignment with causes central to the Harris campaign, focusing on health, poverty reduction, and environmental sustainability.
