CAF Awards Nigeria Three Points After Airport Incident with Libya

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has praised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for awarding Nigeria three points in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after an incident in Libya. CAF’s decision, announced on October 26 by the Chairperson of its Disciplinary Board, Ousmane Kane, came following an investigation that found Libya guilty of subjecting Nigeria's team to mistreatment.

The Nigerian national team faced delays and restrictions at a Libyan airport, including being denied access to food and the internet. The Super Eagles’ refusal to proceed with the match was ultimately vindicated by CAF’s ruling, which imposed a $50,000 fine on Libya.

Reacting to the ruling on X, Troost-Ekong, who is also a nominee for CAF Player of the Year, celebrated the decision, expressing gratitude for CAF’s acknowledgment of Nigeria's difficult situation. “Justice: CAF awards three points and three goals to Nigeria. Libya fined $50,000,” he wrote, adding that the Super Eagles are now "one step closer to our target, AFCON 2025."

CAF’s decision advances Nigeria’s chances in the tournament, ensuring fair play is upheld in the competition.
