A 41-year-old Canadian woman, Adrienne Munju, has been apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. She was caught attempting to smuggle a significant quantity of 'Canadian Loud,' a potent strain of synthetic cannabis, into Nigeria.
According to a statement released by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, October 6, 2024, Munju was arrested during the clearance of passengers arriving on a KLM flight from Canada on Thursday, October 3, 2024. The NDLEA, in a joint examination of her luggage, discovered 74 parcels of the illegal substance, weighing a total of 35.20 kilograms, concealed in two of her three bags.
In her statement, Adrienne revealed that she was recruited through an online platform to traffic the drugs into Nigeria, with a promised payment of 10,000 Canadian dollars upon successful delivery. She explained that she accepted the offer to fund her ongoing master’s degree program in Canada.
The NDLEA continues its investigation into the matter while Adrienne remains in custody.
