Rivers State Governor Fubara Swears in Newly Elected Council Chairmen

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen of the 23 local government areas. The ceremony took place on the afternoon of October 6 at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The swearing-in came shortly after the chairmen received their certificates of return from the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, Adolphus Enebeli, earlier in the day.

The local government elections, held on Saturday, October 5, were marked by controversy and heightened tension. The Action Peoples Party (APP) secured 22 out of the 23 chairmanship positions, with the remaining seat won by a candidate from the Action Alliance (AA).

Governor Fubara expressed his commitment to working with the newly elected chairmen to drive development across the state’s local government areas.
