France Orders Omar bin Laden to Leave the Country Over Terror-Related Posts

French authorities have issued an order for Omar bin Laden, the son of the late Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, to leave the country due to his inflammatory posts on social media advocating terrorism. The announcement was made by France’s Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau on Tuesday, October 8.

Omar bin Laden, 43, was born in Saudi Arabia and has lived in Sudan and Afghanistan. He distanced himself from his father's legacy at the age of 19 and moved to Normandy, France, in 2016, where he pursued a career in painting.

In his statement on social media platform X, Minister Retailleau noted that Omar bin Laden had been residing in the Orne department of Normandy as the spouse of a British national. He highlighted that the son of Osama bin Laden had made comments in 2023 that promoted terrorist ideologies.

“In light of these posts, the prefect of Orne has issued an order for him to leave French territory,” Retailleau stated. “The courts have confirmed the legality of this decision, which is taken in the interests of national security,” he added.

Additionally, Retailleau revealed that he has signed a ban preventing Omar bin Laden from re-entering France for any reason. Omar bin Laden's marriage to British citizen Jane Felix-Browne, a grandmother who is more than two decades his senior and had been divorced five times, sparked significant attention on social media when it was confirmed in 2007. Following their marriage, she adopted the Muslim name Zaina Mohammed.

Omar bin Laden has previously attempted to apply for a visa to reside in the UK, but his application was rejected by British authorities.
