Alhaji Bashir Ado, the Special Adviser on Salary and Pensions to Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi, has been suspended for making an unauthorized statement regarding the approval of a N70,000 minimum wage for workers in the state. The suspension followed a directive from the governor after concerns were raised about the accuracy and timing of the statement.
According to a press release from the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mallam Bala Ibrahim, the statement circulating in the media falsely claimed that Governor Namadi had approved the new minimum wage, despite the fact that the committee responsible for reviewing wages had not yet submitted its recommendations. The committee, led by the Head of the State Civil Service, is still working on its assignment.
The government expressed disappointment at the premature announcement, labeling it as both embarrassing and misleading. In response, Governor Namadi approved Ado’s immediate suspension, pending the outcome of an investigation led by a newly formed committee. This committee, chaired by the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Bello Abdulkadir, has been tasked with investigating the source of the statement, its content, and Ado’s motives. The committee has two weeks to complete its findings.
The investigation team also includes Sagir Musa, Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture; Dr. Abdullahi Muhammad, Commissioner for Health; and Muhammad Yahaya, Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters, Office of the SSG.
This action underscores the state government's commitment to ensuring accurate information is released to the public and maintaining due process in its decision-making.
